Tony Veitch ‘clears his name’

In August last year Tony Veitch indicated he wanted to clear his name… today he has pleaded guilty to “injuring his ex-partner with reckless disregard”, in what was likely to be a plea bargain, the other assault charges were dropped.

I expect that supporters of Tony Vietch will feel vindicated in their support of him, clearly injuring with disregard rather than being convicted of assault makes him a model citizen and fantastic role model.

No doubt had Mr Veitch had different colour skin and lived out in South Auckland he wouldn’t have got off so likely, nor would he have had high profile ‘celebraties’ coming out in support of him either. I guess Tony’s just lucky he’s white and famous.

Looking forward to seeing the morally convoluted arguments from his supporters justifying his innocence, and pushing for him to return to his previous job. Good luck there, everyone can now see he is a liar and someone prone to lashing out and unable to control his anger. What’s more this is someone who has consistently avoided accepting responsibilities for his actions, he deserves no sympathy or support.

I can not believe these comments. I do not know Tony Veitch from a bar of soap but I do know that if he were lying and was not remorseful for what he had done he would not be off trying to kill himself. And don’t give me the “He is only depressed because he has lost his job” crap either because there is or at least was every indication he could make a successful return. People like you and comments like that make me sick.

    • Doesn’t anyone think it a bit odd that every time Veitch goes walk about, ‘concerned’ family ring the police, and then the media so everyones aware of what’s going on? Sure, ring the police, but how come every time there’s a press release? How about the team Veitch has got, media minders, lawyers, PR, the works, anyone would think he was running for office! Veitch has decided rather than a court based trial to clear his name, he’s going to run a trial and clear his name with selected leaks to the MSM and carefully stage managed events and press conferences. It’s clear he’s got a team of people, it was one of his PR people who rang around for “passport” references, which were then used for something completely different. This is just the sort of things MP’s get up too. If Veitch wanted to clear his name to his satisfaction the current way he’s going about it works just fine.

There are three sides to every story; his, hers and the truth. The truth is that no-one will ever know what went on behind closed doors. ‘Trial by Media’ will not get to the bottom of the mystery. One of the hardest things for people to accept is that they DON’T have a ‘special access’ to the truth, an insight. That’s what we have to do, accept that we don’t know, no matter how much hype and conjecture is bandied around, we will never know. Let them, the friends, the family, the employers and the rest of the country move on.

Well said ajs, very well said indeed. Mr Consumist – My God, are you for real? Talk about conspiracy theories. Are you sure he didn’t shoot JFK as well or mastermind 9/11? It is obvious to me from your comments that you have a personal issue with Mr Veitch for your view is anything but objective or even close to fair. Refer back to ajs’s comments and pull your head in.

    • you’re assuming i’m a guy, Mark. Hell, it’s my blog, I don’t need to be objective, or were you expecting the sort of pure objectivity you get the the main stream press? Say, like the Herald, hell everyone knows how objective the MSM are!

Consumist, I apologise for the assumption, that was a blunder on my part. I will pay your “It’s my blog, I don’t need to be objective” It is straight from the “It’s my party and I’ll cry if I want to” precedent set by Lesley Gore in 1963. Well done.
