Barry Matthews should go, and go quietly.
It appears that Barry Matthews is refusing to go quietly.
The ethics of the last Labour Government have a lot to do with the current climate of arrogance and indifference to personal responsibility that in endemic within the public service.
He clearly thinks we are still in an environment where the long suffering pin head taxpayers will put up with a piss-poor performance from Public Servant CEO’s earning over $300k a year, and accept their lame excuses for not doing their jobs.
It is bad enough that the Corrections Department has been found to consistently failed to adhere to it’s own policies, ones designed to protect the public, but that people have actually needlessly died as a result of their incompetence is appalling.
I’ll just repeat that, because it’s very important; People have died because Corrections have not carried out their duty to the public.
This isn’t simply a matter of, “oh whoops, so sorry, we’ll try harder”. The Corrections Department has not even tried to improve things, they think it’s OK and Mr Matthews clearly thinks it’s just fine otherwise he would see that his position is morally untenable and resign. With a CEO with that attitude it’s not surprising the entire department is morally corrupt and incompetent, hell, staff just know this guy’s going to back regardless of their performance.
Barry, people died, you fucked up, not just once, but consistently over a long period. You’re a public servant responsible to the taxpayer, show some balls, accept you and your department have been incompetent and resign. It’s the only decent thing to do.
